Shawn Carter, known professionally as Jay-Z, is a recording artist and entrepreneur whose business career began when he co-founded the hip hop label Roc-A-Fella Records with Damon Dash and Kareem Burke in the mid-1990s. The label formed a joint venture with Def Jam and was fully acquired by Island Def Jam in December 2004.Source [1]Source [2]

In 2008 he formed Roc Nation as a joint venture with Live Nation, which grew into a company spanning a record label, artist management, publishing and touring. He has also built consumer brands. He launched D'USSE cognac with Bacardi in 2012 and in 2023 sold Bacardi a majority of his stake while keeping a significant share.
