About Roc-A-Fella Records

Roc-A-Fella Records was a New York hip hop record label founded by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke. It released Carter's debut album in 1996 and formed a 50/50 joint venture with Def Jam Recordings in 1997.Source [2]Source [1]

In December 2004 Island Def Jam acquired the half of the label it did not already own, and Carter became president of Def Jam. After he stepped down as Def Jam president at the end of 2007 he continued to record for Roc-A-Fella, which by then was wholly owned by Def Jam.Source [3]Source [4]
