About Nomads.com (formerly Nomad List)

Nomads.com, formerly Nomad List, is a website and community for digital nomads that ranks cities on cost of living, internet speed, climate and other factors, and connects members through chat, meetups and a dating and friend-finder feature.Source [2]Source [1]

Pieter Levels built it alone and has run it since 2014 without outside funding. With Remote OK it formed the two-site business that he said reached $1 million in annual revenue in May 2019, run from one server with no ad budget.Source [4]Source [3]

For most of its history it charged a one-time membership fee. In September 2026 Levels made it free apart from a $1 anti-spam sign-up charge, saying a paid gate limited the community's size and that sponsorship, such as its long-running sponsor SafetyWing, may fund it instead.Source [5]

The site also hosts data tools including a FIRE calculator, a climate finder, best-value city rankings and a members map.Source [2]

What happened

Pieter Levels launched Nomad List in July 2014 as a crowdsourced ranking of cities for remote workers, and it grew into a paid membership community with meetups and chat. The site now runs as Nomads.com, and nomadlist.com redirects there. In September 2026 Levels made membership free apart from a $1 sign-up fee, saying it had 43,252 paid members at that point.Source [1]Source [2]Source [5]
