About Maybe

Maybe began as a modern financial planning and wealth management platform that charged a subscription instead of management fees. It was co-founded by Josh Pigford and Travis Woods, a CFP and CFA.Source [2]

Failory reported that a team of eight spent about 18 months building the first product; despite a waitlist of more than 10,000 people, about 50 users became paying customers, the team was cut to three and the company moved on to an AI legal-document tool called Detangle before open-sourcing Maybe's code.Source [2]

The open-source Maybe app on GitHub, licensed AGPLv3, drew more than 54,000 stars. In July 2025 Pigford wrote that the company had about 200 paying customers, about $400,000 left in the bank and was roughly 6,000 paying customers short of breaking even, so it would sunset the consumer app and pivot to B2B financial forecasting and scenario planning.Source [3]Source [4]

The final open-source release, v0.6.0, came out on July 24, 2025, and the repository was archived on July 27, 2025. Pigford's projects page lists Maybe, by then described as B2B forecasting and scenario planning, as shut down, and the maybe.co domain did not respond on October 2, 2026.Source [5]Source [3]Source [1]Source [6]

What happened

Josh Pigford and Travis Woods co-founded Maybe as a financial planning and wealth management app and raised $1.45 million from about 1,300 investors on Republic. After a launch that, per Failory, produced only about 50 paying customers, the company shut the app down, released its code as open source in January 2024 and later rebuilt it as an open-source, self-hostable personal finance app. In July 2025 Pigford announced a pivot to B2B forecasting tools and the company archived the open-source repository; his projects page now lists Maybe as shut down.Source [2]Source [3]Source [5]Source [4]Source [1]
