Sam Altman is an American entrepreneur and investor who is co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. He was named co-chair of OpenAI when it was announced as a nonprofit research lab in December 2015 and became its CEO in 2019.Source [1]Source [2]Source [3]

He studied computer science at Stanford University for two years and left in 2005 to start Loopt, a mobile location-sharing company funded in Y Combinator's first batch. He was Loopt's CEO when Green Dot Corporation bought it for $43.4 million in cash in 2012.Source [4]Source [5]Source [6]

After Loopt he set up the venture firm Hydrazine Capital in 2012 and joined Y Combinator, where he became president in 2014 in succession to Paul Graham.
