About Alphabet

Alphabet is the holding company of Google and a group of smaller businesses known as Other Bets. Larry Page announced it in August 2015, describing it as mostly a collection of companies, the largest of which is Google, and it took over as the publicly traded parent on October 2, 2015.Source [2]Source [1]

It reports three segments: Google Services (ads, Android, Chrome, devices, Maps, Play, Search and YouTube), Google Cloud (infrastructure, platform services and Workspace for enterprises) and Other Bets, whose revenue comes mainly from autonomous transportation and internet services. More than 70% of 2025 revenue came from online advertising.Source [4]

Alphabet reported 2025 revenues of $402.8 billion, up 15% from 2024, and net income of $132.2 billion, with 190,820 employees at year end. In March 2026 it completed acquisitions of cloud security company Wiz for $29.5 billion and energy developer Intersect for $5.9 billion.Source [4]Source [5]

Sundar Pichai has been CEO since December 2019 and John Hennessy has chaired the board since January 2018. Co-founders Page and Brin remain directors and, through Class B shares, together held more than half of total voting power as of April 2026.Source [3]Source [6]

What happened

Announced by Larry Page in August 2015 and created on October 2, 2015 as a holding company for Google and other ventures, with Page as CEO and Sergey Brin as President. Both stepped back from those roles in December 2019 and Sundar Pichai became CEO of Alphabet and Google.
