About

Peter Thiel is an entrepreneur and investor. He co-founded PayPal in 1998, served as its CEO, President and Chairman from 2000 until eBay acquired it in 2002, and co-founded Palantir Technologies, where he has been Chairman of the board since 2003.Source [1]Source [2]Source [3]

After law school at Stanford he worked as a securities lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and then as a derivatives trader at Credit Suisse before returning to California in 1996 to start an investment firm, Thiel Capital. That firm led to his first company, Confinity, which he co-founded with Max Levchin and which merged with X.com in 2000 to become PayPal.Source [4]Source [5]Source [3]

After PayPal he set up the global macro hedge fund Clarium Capital Management in 2002. In 2004 he made the first outside investment in Facebook, and he served on its board from 2005 to 2022. In 2005 he launched the venture firm Founders Fund with Ken Howery and Luke Nosek, and in 2012 he co-founded Mithril Capital with Ajay Royan.Source [4]Source [2]Source [1]Source [6]Source [7]

Today he is a partner at Founders Fund, president of the investment firm Thiel Capital and Chairman of Palantir. He started the Thiel Fellowship, which gives young people $250,000 grants to build companies instead of attending college, and leads the Thiel Foundation.Source [1]Source [2]Source [8]Source [9]

He is the author, with Blake Masters, of Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future (2014), and co-wrote The Diversity Myth (1995) with David Sacks.Source [10]Source [11]Source [2]
