About Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks are an NBA team based in Dallas. The league awarded the franchise to Donald Carter on May 1, 1980; the team played at Reunion Arena until 2001 and has played at the American Airlines Center since it opened that year.Source [1]

Ross Perot Jr. owned the team from 1996 to 2000, when Mark Cuban bought it for $285 million. Under Cuban the team reached the NBA Finals in 2006 and won its first championship in 2011, led by Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki.Source [1]Source [5]Source [6]

In December 2023 the NBA approved the sale of a controlling stake, in a deal valued at about $3.5 billion, to the families of Miriam Adelson and Sivan and Patrick Dumont of Las Vegas Sands. Dumont is governor; Cuban kept about 27%, and the buyers can purchase up to 20% more of his shares within four years.Source [4]Source [3]Source [7]
