About Black Magic
Black Magic began as a script that drew a progress bar around Dinh's Twitter profile picture as he approached 1,000 followers, then became a web app with a $4 a month Pro plan. Its Magic Sidebar Chrome extension added analytics and CRM features inside Twitter, and the product was repositioned around it.Source [1]
Dinh reported it grew to $4K MRR by February 2022, $13K MRR by October 2022 and about $14K MRR at the time of sale; these figures are self-reported. He said he had turned down a $500K offer about three months before the sale.Source [1]Source [3]
When Twitter told developers the new enterprise API would cost at least $42K a month, Dinh sold the business to Hypefury, founded by Samy, for $128,000. Customers had to re-authorize under Hypefury's Twitter app, and Dinh agreed to keep working on the product for at least a year.Source [3]Source [2]
BlackMagic.so now states the product shut down on July 1, 2026, and that active subscriptions were cancelled.Source [4]
